UNG Athletics Completes Initial Rebranding Phase

DAHLONEGA, Georgia – ( – The University of North Georgia Athletic Department has completed the initial phase of facility rebranding including a cosmetic overhaul to Memorial Hall including a refinishing rebranding of the gym floor.  The first element of the institution’s athletic image rebranding was the launch of in July.

“North Georgia as undergone an unprecedented transformation over the last eight months and our new Nighthawk identity is an example of UNG Athletics moving forward,” stated Athletic Director Lindsay Reeves.  “Our goal in our rebrand is to continue to attract the best student-athletes with a modern streamlined image while respecting the heritage of the University of North Georgia.”

The new Nighthawk brand is now featured in the athletic department offices, outdoor facility signage and on the gym floor.

The gym floor project, which was overseen by Hank Haynes, Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities, involved several stages. CBA Sports out of Norcross, Ga., who carries the contract for the NCAA’s Final Four floors, sanded the entire arena floor to bare wood, before the floor was cleaned, stained, repainted and then stained again.

The university’s new branding initiative for Athletics was a critical element in the process. The revamped Nighthawk logo -- displayed at center court in the school’s new color scheme of blue and gold -- serves as the anchor of the floor redesign.

The centerpiece of the rebranding project in Memorial Hall is a stairwell mural featuring the NEW LOOK – SAME TRADITION motto.  Additionally, a branded UNG Athletics Hall of Fame board was put in the main hallway honoring the 13 members of the three Hall of Fame classes.

New to Memorial Hall is a unified signage project including nameplate, room identification boards, directory boards, numerous acrylic posters and wrapped glass images.  New directional signs identifying UNG’s athletic facilities were also placed around campus.

The rebranding also has a digital component as Nighthawk fans now have access to enhanced social media initiatives as well as downloadable images featuring the new logo for use on computer desktops and mobile device backgrounds.

The next phase of the Nighthawks rebranding will be the cosmetic make up of Coleman Field House located at the UNG Athletics Complex off Morrison Moore Connector.  Coleman Field House will serve as the home of UNG baseball and softball and will include coaches offices, an athletic training annex, team locker and meeting rooms and concessions and is set to open in September.
