Saints Ground Eagles, Rally for 4-3 win Over Emory
– The 19th-ranked North Georgia baseball team played host to
in-state rival Emory University on Tuesday evening as the Saints
rallied from an early deficit to take down the Eagles 4-3 at Bob
Stein Stadium in non-conference action.
The Saints improve to 27-13 overall on the season and move to 10-6 all-time against Emory, while the Eagles have now lost seven of nine games and fall to 5-18 on the year.
Dan Molnar put Emory on top in the early going as the senior singled through the right side to cap a two-out rally and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
The Saints started to claw their way back into the game in the last of the third inning, using a double to right center off the bat of Anders Oster to bring Andre Airich racing home as the senior duo combined with back-to-back doubles to put North Georgia on the board.
Jordan Erisman knotted the score up two innings later as he singled up the middle to plate Craig Brisson and make it 2-2. Kenny Bellavance gave North Georgia the lead later in the frame as the freshman continued his sensational campaign with a single to left center, bringing Erisman home and making it 3-2.
Both teams traded runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but North Georgia held off the Eagles as Jacob Rickett took the mound in the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season. Alex Simmons came on in relief to pick up his first victory of the year, tossing 1.2 innings and allowing a run while striking out two.
The Saints return to action over the weekend, traveling to Augusta State University for North Georgia’s third straight road PBC set. Jaguars and Saints will battle in a doubleheader on Saturday before a single game on Sunday will cap the weekend series. Live stats for all three games will be provided at www.SaintsSports.com.
