10th-Ranked Saints Complete Series Sweep Over GSW
AMERICUS, GA – The 10th-ranked North Georgia baseball team completed a three-game sweep at Georgia Southwestern on Sunday afternoon, taking an early lead and holding on for a 4-2 victory at Hurricanes Field in Peach Belt Conference action.
The victory for the Saints sends North Georgia to 15-6 overall and 4-5 in Peach Belt Conference action, while the Hurricanes drop their fourth straight game, falling to 12-10 overall and 3-3 in league action.
North Georgia broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning as Kenny Bellavance and Troy Snitker notched back-to-back RBI singles, plating Cameron Crawford and Jordan Erisman to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
After a single run by Georgia Southwestern in the sixth inning, the Saints went right back to work in the seventh frame and Bellavance was at it again, sending a single up the middle to send Crawford home and make it 3-1. Snitker added another RBI with a groundout later in the inning as North Georgia extended their lead to three at 4-1.
The Hurricanes plated a run in the bottom of the seventh off an RBI single by Jared Allen, but the Saints' bullpen shut down GSW over the final two innings to seal the victory and the series sweep.
Andrew Wallace (2-0) picked up the win, allowing a run on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work, while a trio of Saints came on in relief, capped by Jacob Rickett who earned his sixth save of the year with a perfect ninth inning.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Carson-Newman for a two-game midweek series with the Eagles. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
