Baseball Falls 3-0 in Home Opener to King College
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of North Georgia baseball team opened its home slate Friday evening with a 3-0 loss to King College (TN) at Bob Stein Stadium. The Saints fought hard, but were unable to record a hit as Corey Rhodes dealt the complete game to secure the no hitter for the Tornado.
The Saints (0-4) did not give up a run to the Tornado (3-1) until the seventh inning when Steven Todoschuk scored all the way from first base following an error committed in right-center field. The Tornado then tacked on another two runs in the next inning to go up 3-0.
Jose Sola led the way at the plate for King with a 2-3 performance and one run scored.
Rhodes struck out his final batter to record the shutout after a conference with his coach and finished with nine strikeouts for the nine innings. He also walked three batters and hit two others.
Christian Turnipseed had a solid outing on the mound with seven innings of work and nine strikeouts compared to just one earned run to accept his first loss of the season (0-1). He also recorded two assists as he caught two runners sleeping at second base.
The two teams will renew their rivalry tomorrow afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
