DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia men's basketball team wrapped up the 2011 calendar year with a 70-49 victory over Anderson University on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall.

There is no place like home for the Saints (6-5, 1-0 PBC) who improved their home record to 5-1 at home on the young season. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Anderson (7-3, 2-0 SAC).

With the win the Saints improve to 3-1 against the South Atlantic Conference this season.

The Trojans held their only lead of the game after Taylor Shugart hit a jumper one minute into the game to put them up 2-0 and the Saints responded with a 26-8 run over the next 10 minutes to pull away.

North Georgia had their best defensive effort of the season, holding Anderson to 28.6 percent shooting from the field.

The Saints held their biggest lead of the half when Clarence Tillman made a jumper with two and half minutes remaining to put the home team up 31-14.

Over the final two minutes of the opening half both teams traded baskets and after Travis Core made a pair of free throws, the Saints took a 36-20 advantage heading into the break.

North Georgia picked up right where they left off in the second half, controlling the pace of the play and forcing the Trojans to take tough shots.

The Saints stretched their lead to as many as 26 with three minutes remaining in the game when Tillman stole an errant pass and threw down a tomahawk jam much to delight of the home crowd.

Once again the two-headed monster of Scott Windom and Tillman led the Saints offensive attack. Windom poured in 18 points and Tillman scored a game-high 22 and pulled 11 boards to register his first double-double of the season.

Freshman Travis Core continued to impress, scoring 10 points off the bench while adding four rebounds and four assists.

The Trojans struggled in their half court sets all afternoon, turning the ball over 15 times that led to 14 Saints' points.

North Georgia's control of the tempo is evident in the box score as they outscored the Trojans 12-0 in fast break points.

Anderson was led by Nick Trull who scored 11 points, despite shooting a season-worst 3-17 from the field, while Taylor Shugart added eight points and eight rebounds.

The Saints return to action on Tuesday, January 3, when they travel to Morrow, Georgia, to face Clayton State in the first game of a two-game Peach Belt Conference road trip to open the 2012 calendar year.
