DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia Saints men's soccer team used two penalty kick goals, one coming in the 90th minute, to down SCAD in their last exhibition tune-up before the regular season.
Max Angel scored his first penalty kick in the 37th minute when a penalty was called on SCAD for throwing down Ben Tayi in the box. Angel stepped up calmly and drilled the ball into the back of the net going left side. The goal also leveled the score at 1-1 as SCAD was able to get a goal first coming in the 16th minute.
The opportunities came more for both teams in the second half as there were 12 total shots taken collectively, seven more than were shot in the first half. The Saints finally cashed in coming in the 90th minute following a rebound shot on goal. A handball was called on SCAD in the box, allowing Angel to step up yet again.
Angel decided that if it's not broke don't fix it, as he again drilled the ball into the left side of the net boosting the Saints passed and onto the victory, 2-1.
Kristopher Alonzo played the entire second half in goal for the Saints, recording three key saves.
After finishing with a win and a draw in preseason play, Pat Parris and the Saints now will prepare for a tough road trip to south Florida. The team will open the regular season next Friday, September 2 as they will travel to Nova Southeastern; game time is 7:00 pm. They then have a quick turnaround playing at Barry University in Miami Sunday afternoon.
