Saints Bounce Back with 3-1 Victory Over Falcons

MORROW, Ga. – 24 hours after the North Georgia College & State men's soccer team dropped their season-opener, the Saints powered back with a 3-1 victory over Pfeiffer University in the Clayton State Laker Shootout Saturday afternoon.

The win improves North Georgia's record to 1-1 for the young season while Pfeiffer falls to 0-2.

The Saints never trailed in the contest as Gustavo Cunha recorded his first goal of the season 15 minutes into the game with a shot from 25 yards out.

The Falcons were able to tie things up about 10 minutes later off a Seth Dey goal, but the Saints would not be denied the lead as Max Angel scored with just two minutes left in the half to give North Georgia the 2-1 lead heading into intermission.

Juan Hurtado put the icing on the cake for the Saints late in the second half as neither team could find another goal until just 30 seconds remaining in regulation when Huratdo scored off a deflection.

The Saints held the advantage in shots (17-9) and corner kicks (9-3) but the Falcons' goalie, Zach Liles was forced to make three more saves than Kristopher Alonzo.

North Georgia will not be back in action until Thursday, Sept. 6 when they travel down to Tampa, Fla. to participate in the Peach Belt – Sunshine Challenge. The Saints will face the tournament host the University of Tampa in a 7:30 p.m. game on Thursday before taking on Eckerd two days later.
