Men's Soccer Adds Nine to Squad for 2013

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – University of North Georgia head men's soccer coach Pat Parris announced Thursday the completion of the 2013 recruiting class. Joining the squad in its inaugural campaign under the "Nighthawks" banner will be NCAA Division I transfer Eric Carrion, NAIA transfer Luis Huertas, junior college transfer Fischer Olliff and incoming freshmen Raul Diaz, Eddie Hurst, Andrew Leuer, Drew Loconte, Carlos Reyes and Zach Tibbs. 

"The 2013 class will fit in right away being that they are skilled players that are teachable," Parris stated. "The plan has always been to bring in a big class for 2012 & 2013 so that we can continue to have a successful program within the prominent (Peach Belt Conference). Each class that we bring in understands that we are always trying to set a new standard for the program by competing for a PBC title, a top-ten regional ranking, and an NCAA tournament berth."

Parris went on to say, "Having these players on our roster will provide the added depth that we need in certain positions both physically and mentally. Overall, we will be young regarding experience at the collegiate level. With that being said, we do have key veterans returning that will mentor our younger players in their collegiate transition and are excited for what the future holds for our program."

Eric Luis Carrion, Center Midfielder
Suwanee, GA (Northview HS/UNC Greensboro)

Carrion, a 5-9 center midfielder, played one season at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2010, playing in 12 games with one start and one assist. Following that season, Carrion went and played for the U-20 reserve team at Club Deportivo Universidad de Concepcion in Chile, scoring four goals and recording eight assists in 18 matches.

In high school at Northview High School, Carrion scored 41 goals as a four-year starter and received the team's Best Offensive Player plaudit as a junior. As a senior in 2010, he earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Distinguished Athlete award, presented to select high school student-athletes who exhibit strong character and hard work as well as citizenship, courage, poise, self-confidence and leadership.

Carrion has also played club ball for the Atlanta Fire United, Alpharetta Ambush and Norcross Soccer Clubs. Also played on the United State Soccer Federation (USSF) Development Academy Team where he was one of the starting 11 for the U15/16 USSF Academy Southeastern Conference during the 2007-08 season.

In high school, he was also named to the Principal's List three times and earned the Legion of Honor Award.

Luis Huertas, Center Midfielder
Dacula, GA (Dacula HS/Truett McConnell)

Huertas spent one season at Truett McConnell College where he played 17 games, including seven starts. He scored eight goals and had one assist for 17 points in that one season off 19 shots on goal. Prior to that, he played three seasons for Dacula High School's varsity squad, scoring 64 career goals.

Fischer Olliff, Defender
Alpharetta, GA (Centennial HS/Darton JC)

A 6-3 defender from Alpharetta, Olliff spent last season at Darton Junior College in Albany, Ga. where he saw action in three games for the Cavaliers.

Prior to his time in Albany, Olliff was a three-year varsity starter after being named his junior varsity team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) as a freshman in 2009. In 2010, he helped lead his team to the Region 5 A championship and state semi finals. As a junior in 2011, he was named his team's Defensive MVP and was an All-Region 5 selection while leading the team back to the region championship game and state playoffs.

For club ball, Olliff played for the Norcross Fury R3PL, Atlanta Fire United Elite U17 and Augusta Arsenal U16.

Raul Ignacio Diaz, Center Midfielder
Duluth, GA (Peachtree Ridge HS)

Diaz is a 5-11 midfielder out of Peachtree Ridge High School where he is a four-year member of the soccer program. Last season as a junior, he scored one goal and assisted on two more to finish with four points.

He has also been a member of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy U-16 Chicago Magic and Atlanta Fire United and away from the pitch, he was an Advanced Placement (AP) and Honor Roll student. 

Edward "Eddie" James Hurst, Midfielder/Striker
Helen, GA (White County HS)

A 6-1 striker from White County High School, Hurst will graduate as a three-year varsity member. As a sophomore in 2011, he earned the team's Chieftain Award, awarded to the MVP on the squad, and led the team in assists. He followed that up in his junior campaign by leading the team in both goals scored and assists en route to earning his second-straight MVP award.

He is also a three-year captain of the Lanier Soccer Association having led the team in scoring in both 2010 and 2012 and has also been a member of the men's varsity basketball team where he lead the squad in steals as a junior and was named the Best Defensive Player.

Away from athletics, Hurst is already a four-year Honor Roll student, an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), a Scholar-Athlete and was a member of the Homecoming Court.

Andrew Joseph Leuer, Midfielder/Striker
Columbus, GA (Northside HS)

Leuer is a 5-10 midfielder/striker from Northside High School where he has earned three varsity letters in soccer. As a sophomore in 2011, he led the team in scoring and was named a team captain before being named his team's Offensive Player of the Year. That same season, he was named to the South West Georgia All-Star game and Ledger Enquirer's All-Bi-City team.

In club ball, he has been a member of CFC Red Star Black, 94 Georgia Olympic Development Program (ODP).

Aside from soccer, he was also strong in the classroom as he was named to the Honor Roll four times, worked over 130 hours of volunteer work in his community and was an active member of the National Honor Society and Prom Committee. 

Andrew "Drew" David Loconte, Right-Back/Defender
Acworth, GA (Allatoona HS)

Loconte, a 5-11 defender out of Allatoona High School, is already a two-time varsity letterwinner. As a sophomore in 2011, he was named his team's Best Defensive Player as well as the team's MVP. During his junior campaign, he led the team to an appearance in the region tournament.
He has also been member of the Cobb FC or Southern Soccer Association and Super Y. In 2009, he was invited to the West Ham Training in Atlanta and in 2010 was invited to the Super Y ODP National Training Camp in Tampa, Fla.

 

Carlos Roldan Reyes, Center Midfielder
Gainesville, GA (Chestatee HS)

A 5-10 center midfielder out of Chestatee High School, Reyes will finish his high school career as a four-year varsity letterwinner. As a freshman in 2010, he earned a spot on the varsity squad and earned the academic award, the first of three he has earned so far entering his senior season. He then was named to the All-Region 8 AAA second team in both 2011 and 2012 and was named his team's MVP in 2012.

He helped lead his team to the state playoffs in 2011 and 2012 including finishing as the Region 8 AAA runner up. He was also a member of the 1995 Georgia ODP Team, UFA – 95 Elite R3PL team and LSA – 95 Classic 1.

Away from soccer, Reyes was an honors student and active member of DECA and the student council.

Zach Martin Tibbs, Forward
Gainesville, GA (Norh Hall HS)

Rounding out the 2013 recruiting class is Tibbs, a 5-10 forward who prepped at North Hall High School. Heading into his senior year, Tibbs has already earned six varsity letters between soccer and basketball (three each). In soccer, he led the team in goals and assists as a sophomore in 2011, accumulating 35 points with 12 goals and 11 assists. He followed that up in 2012 by leading the team with 13 goals and also set up 13 more scores for 42 points.

He has also been a member of the LSA soccer club having scored 44 goals in the last three seasons. In 2010, he scored a career-high 20 goals for LSA.

Away from soccer, Tibbs has been an active member the Senior Beta Club, student council and has registered a 4.0 grade point average.
