Softball Slides in at No. 4 in Latest NFCA Top 25 Poll

STARKVILLE, MS – After playing four straight games against two of the top five teams in the country, the North Georgia softball team dropped two spots in the latest edition of the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 4 in the land.

Angelo State (20-1) picked up 15 of the 16 first place votes on the week and finished 30 points ahead of No. 2 Valdosta St. (10-2). Meanwhile, the Blazers went 3-1 last week at North Georgia's Captain D's Classic to move up to No. 2 and pick up the remaining first-place vote.

Alabama-Huntsville (14-1-1) moved up one spot this week to No. 3, while North Georgia dropped two spots to No. 4 in the country and are 24-6 heading into Thursday's Peach Belt Conference opener against Flagler College who made their exit from the poll after being ranked for three straight weeks.

No. 16 Lock Haven (11-3) and No. 25 Saginaw Valley (9-6) also made their exits from the rankings this week and were replaced by West Virginia Wesleyan (17-3), Armstrong Atlantic (18-4) and Indiana (PA) at 15th, 24th and 25th, respectively.

The Saints will now turn their attention to Thursday afternoon's Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Flagler College as North Georgia is one of just two teams yet to open league play.

The Saints will look to extend their current 34-game winning streak in Peach Belt Conference play, dating back to a 4-0 loss to USC Aiken on March 17, 2009. Since the defeat to the Pacers two years ago, North Georgia has won 34 straight conference games, including a perfect 20-0 mark during the 2010 season.
