Softball Remains No. 2 in Latest National Top 25 Poll
STARKVILLE, MS – For the second straight week, the North Georgia softball team is ranked No. 2 in the country according to the latest edition of the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll released on Wednesday morning.
After capturing the program's third straight Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament championship two weeks ago, the Saints now await the NCAA Selection Show slated for Monday May 9, on NCAA.com.
The Chargers (38-2-1) received all 16 first-place votes for the second straight week and remain the No. 1 team in the country, while Midwestern State in No. 3, Rollins is No. 4, and Valdosta State dropped one spot to round out the top five.
Flagler College joins North Georgia as the only other Peach Belt Conference team in the ranking, coming in at No. 23 after appearing in the national poll seven weeks ago.
North Georgia currently leads the country in wins with 47, having not played a game since the PBC Tournament Championship victory over Augusta State 10 days ago.
The Saints also continue a streak of 27 consecutive weeks of appearing in the nation's top five dating back to the 2009 season.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
