Softball Holds on to Sixth in NFCA Top-25 Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of North Georgia softball team continued to hold on to the No. 6 spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 Poll released Wednesday.

Last week, the Saints (30-9, 10-4 PBC) dropped a key Peach Belt Conference (PBC) doubleheader to then fourth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University on Friday, Mar. 29. The Saints fell 4-3 in the first game and 13-5 in the day's second contest. 

North Georgia currently sits in a tie for third in the PBC standings with 19th-ranked Columbus State University (29-13, 10-4 PBC). Georgia College (30-12, 12-4 PBC), which received votes in this week's coaches poll, sits second after sweeping the Cougars on Tuesday, Apr. 2. Third-ranked Armstrong remains atop the conference standings with a record of 27-4-1 overall and 10-2 in PBC action. 

For the first time in four weeks, there is a new No. 1 in the national poll as the University of Indianapolis (30-2) claimed 11 first-place votes, dropping West Texas A&M University (27-4) to second with three votes. Rounding out the top-five are Armstrong, Valdosta State University (26-8) and Southeastern Oklahoma State University (28-7). 

North Georgia will play its final road doubleheader of the regular-season today at 1:00 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla. The Saints will face off against Flagler College in a PBC twinbill and will return home for three-straight doubleheaders to close out the regular-season.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. The entire NFCA Top-25 Poll can be found HERE.
