Lady Saints Devour Falcons 61-48 in PBC Action
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia women's basketball team got back on track Monday evening, playing host to the University of Montevallo and taking down the Falcons 61-48 in Peach Belt Conference action in Memorial Hall.
The Lady Saints defend their home floor, improving to 12-6 overall on the season and moving to 3-4 on the year in Peach Belt Conference action. The Falcons drop their third straight, falling to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in league action.
The Lady Saints and Falcons exchanged the lead three times in the opening minutes before North Georgia jumped out on top at the 15:05 mark, using a Janyce Ealey layup to give the home team a one-point lead at 5-4.
North Georgia exploded on offense from there, going on a 14-2 run over the next nine minutes to jump out to a 13-point edge at 19-6. The Lady Saints extended their advantage to as many as 14 points in the opening half on a three-pointer by Lindsey Moss with 5:02 remaining, giving North Georgia a 22-8 lead.
The Falcons finally went on a run to end the half, using a 7-2 stint over the final five minutes to cut the North Georgia lead to nine at 24-15 heading to intermission.
North Georgia opened the second half on fire, using three-pointers from Moss on both sides of a 10-2 run to double up the Falcons 34-17 with 17:23 remaining in the game. The Lady Saints led by as many as 23 points at the 4:46 mark on a layup from Sarah Stinson before Montevallo ended the game on an 11-4 run, pulling to within 13 points as the buzzer sounded, giving North Georgia a 61-48 victory.
Both teams tallied 12 points in the paint, while the half court game allowed for just 14 combined fast break points. The Lady Saints committed 24 turnovers to 15 for the Falcons, while North Georgia outrebounded their opponent 51-35.
Moss led all scorers with a game-high 21 points, while finishing a rebound shy of a double-double in 35 minutes of action. Jessica tallied four points, but pulled down a season-high 21 rebounds and added three assists. Ealey added 12 points, while Brooke Garmon rounded out the players in double figures with 10 points on 3-for-9 shooting from the field.
The Lady Saints return to action on Wednesday evening, welcoming Flagler College to town for another Peach Belt Conference matchup. Tip-off in the battle of the Saints is set for 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
