AUGUSTA, GA – After leading the Lady Saints to a pair of wins last week, sophomore forward Jaymee Carnes has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week.

The league office announced the news Tuesday morning as North Georgia prepares to travel to Clayton State for their first conference road game of the season.

It is the second time in the first five weeks that Carnes has earned the honor and she is also the first player to win the award multiple times this season.

Carnes led the Lady Saints to a perfect 2-0 record last week, as she poured in 34 points and grabbed 12 boards against Reinhardt in the final game of an eight game home stand to open the season.

Against the Eagles, she made 11 of her 20 field goal attempts and knocked down 10 of her 12 free throw.

The Gainesville, Georgia, native followed up the Reinhardt game with another 30 point performance in a come from behind 73-70 overtime victory over Newberry.

In arguably her best game of the season, Carnes scored six of her game-high 39 points in overtime. Down the stretch she took control of the game, sinking a jumper with under 20 seconds to play, then on the ensuing possession she blocked the game-winning layup attempt, pulled down the rebound while being fouled and made both free throw shots to seal the victory.

Last week Carnes averaged 36.5 points per game and 13 rebounds per game, while scoring exactly 50 percent of the North Georgia's points and shooting 57 percent from the field.

The 39-point performance tied for 11th most in a single game in the NCAA this year and she now holds two of the top 14 scoring performances in PBC history.

Through the first two months of the season Carnes leads the Peach Belt Conference and the nation in scoring average (28.3) and blocks per game (3.7). Carnes is also second in the conference in rebounding average (12.2) and free throw percentage (85.2).

Carnes looks to remain hot as the Lady Saints travel to Morrow, Georgia, later this evening for their second conference game of the season, tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. against the 5th-ranked Lakers of Clayton State.
