PINE MOUNTAIN, GA – The North Georgia women's golf team capped the 2012 Peach Belt Championships on Tuesday by shooting an aggregate score of 333 in the final round contested at the par-71 Callaway Gardens.
The Lady Saints dropped six shots from their opening round 227 to land in seventh place 14 strokes behind sixth place Montevallo.
For the second straight day junior Catalina Olarte was the low scorer for the Lady Saints following up an opening round 76 with a four-over-par 75 to finish in eighth place. Olarte got off to a hot start recording a birdie on the opening hole and paring the second before bogeying the par 4 third. The Manizales, Colombia, native would bounce back birdying the par 4 fourth.
Later in her round Olarte ran into some trouble bogeying holes eight, nine and 10. Once again she would bounce back recording birdies on three of the next four holes. When all was said and done Olarte capped her junior season with five birdies in the round.
Following Olarte was Erica Breeden who shaved four strokes off her opening round 85 on day two to finish in 27th place. Breeden struggled at the beginning of her round bogeying four of the first five holes. She would recover nicely with five straight pars, before faltering down the stretch with six bogeys on the back nine.
Casey Truelove wrapped up her sophomore year with a 15-over-par 86 in the final round. Truelove's rollercoaster round left her one shot behind Breeden and in sole possession of 28th place. Truelove began her round with a bogey and a double bogey on the first two holes before birdying the par 4 third. Later in her round Truelove birdied the par 3 13th.
Abbey Gill ended her first Peach Belt Conference Championships by following up an opening round 85 with a 20-over-par 91 en route to a 34th place finish. Gill recorded five pars in her final competitive round of the spring. Gill was poised to make a run, but ran into some trouble at the turn bogeying holes 10 and 12.
The last scorer for the tournament from North Georgia was LeeAnn Noble who shaved six shots off her opening round score on day two to finish in 35 place. Noble ended her spring with five pars and she was one of three members of the team to quadruple bogey the 18th hole.
The Peach Belt Conference Championships marked the end of North Georgia's season for the third straight year, as the Lady Saints competed in 11 tournaments producing four top-five finishes during the 2011-12 season.
