Lady Saints Devour Falcons 4-0 in PBC Action
– The North Georgia women's soccer extended their winning
streak to four games on Saturday evening, scoring a pair of goals
in each half to run away from the University of Montevallo 4-0 in
Peach Belt Conference action.
The Lady Saints improve to 5-1 overall on the year and move to a perfect 2-0 in Peach Belt Conference action, while the Falcons fall to 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in league action. North Georgia is now 3-1-1 all-time against Montevallo and cap their longest home stand of the season with a 4-1 mark.
Kelsey Martin got the Lady Saints on the board in the early going, taking a pass from Samantha Abrahart and sending a shot that was saved by Montevallo keeper Alyssa Maxwell, but Martin found the rebound and sent a shot inside the right post for the game's first goal.
Abrahart found her chance just three minutes later at the 11:37 mark as Casey Smith sent a free kick into the box and Abrahart's header found the back of the net to put North Georgia up by a pair of goals.
The Lady Saints held a two-goal advantage heading into intermission, but would add some insurance in the 52nd minute as Abrahart and Smith hooked up one more time for the third goal of the day. Abrahart's second score of the game came once again on Smith's free kick as the deflection from the goalie came right to the freshman who sent home her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Smith recorded her third helper of the day in the 77th minute as the senior All-American lined up for a corner and found the head of Kelly Martin who sent her first goal of the year inside the left post to cap the scoring and give North Georgia a 4-0 victory.
North Georgia held a 23-10 edge in shots, while continuing to dominate in corners with a 13-4 advantage, including two goals off corner kicks. Jessica English picked up the win in goal, notching her first complete-game shutout of the year with six saves. Alyssa Maxwell suffered the loss for the Falcons, allowing three goals while tallying eight saves in 62 minutes of action.
The Lady Saints will now take their longest break of the season before returning to action a week from today on the road at Lander University. North Georgia is 1-4 all-time against the Bearcats as the two teams will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. in Greenwood, South Carolina.
