#25 Lady Saints Upended by #7 Armstrong Atlantic

SAVANNAH, GA – The 25th-ranked North Georgia women's soccer team hit the road on Saturday afternoon for a top-25 Peach Belt Conference matchup and the game lived up to the hype as 7th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic edged the Lady Saints 2-1 at the AASU Soccer Field.

North Georgia's 10-game winning streak comes to an end as the Lady Saints fall to 12-2 overall on the year and 6-1 in Peach Belt Conference action. Armstrong Atlantic now takes over sole possession of first place in the conference standings, improving to 10-1-2 overall and 7-1 in league action.

The Pirates jumped on the board in the early going as Morgan Mitchell collided with North Georgia keeper Kirsten Ross, clearing net for Mitchell who punched home the game's first goal, giving Armstrong Atlantic a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute.

With time ticking down before the half, the Lady Saints found a scoring chance and took full advantage as Emily sent a cross into the box from the right side and Emily Dover finished the play with her 6th goal of the season. The equalizer in the 44th minute sent the two teams into a deadlock at intermission.

The game remained tied until the 72nd minute when Carey Patterson sent a free kick into the box and Danielle Fey connected and sent home the game-winner for her fourth score of the season, giving the 7th-ranked team in the country a 2-1 victory.

Tracey Mitchell picked up the win in goal, allowing the lone North Georgia goal while not recording a save. Ross suffered her first loss of the year, letting both goals slip through while notching five saves.

AASU dominated offensively, recording 19 shots to just seven for North Georgia, while the Pirates also edged the Lady Saints 4-3 in corner kicks.

The schedule does not get any easier for the Lady Saints as they return home for a Tuesday showdown with in-state rival and 12th-ranked Columbus State University. Kickoff against the Cougars is set for 6:00 p.m. in Dahlonega. A live video broadcast and in-game statistics will follow every second of the nationally ranked Peach Belt Conference teams.
