Women's Tennis Declaws West Alabama with 7-2 Win

DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia women's tennis team won their second straight match on Saturday afternoon, welcoming the University of West Alabama to town and defeating the Tigers 7-2 at Yahoola Creek Park in non-conference action.

North Georgia improves to 2-0 on the year, taking the program's home opener for the 2011 campaign, while West Alabama falls to 2-3 on the young season.

The Lady Saints got off to a fast start for the second straight match as Stasa Vujosevic and Laura Chapman swept away Angy Cuellar and Natalia Cardenas 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Jordan Poole and Audrey Marlette captured an 8-2 win at No. 2, while Matilda Watson and Juliana Chiang grabbed a victory at No. 3 by the same margin.

Leading 3-0 heading into singles action, North Georgia wasted little time securing the win as Chapman defended No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Vujosevic's 7-5 6-1 win at No. 2 sealed up the match. The Lady Saints would add two more points to cruise to a 7-5 victory over West Alabama.

North Georgia will look to make it three straight wins to open the season as they play host to NAIA powerhouse Brenau University on Tuesday afternoon at the Yahoola Creek Tennis Complex. First serve between the Lady Saints and Golden Tigers is set for 2:00 p.m. in Dahlonega.
