Saints Show Improvements with Season-Best Times, Finish Eighth in PBC Championships

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The North Georgia College & State University women's cross country team wrapped up the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted by the University of Montevallo with an eighth-place team finish as eight runner knocked off time from the last time they raced in a 6,000 meter race.

Clayton State University took home its first-ever women's team title with 63 points, seven points fewer than Columbus State University. The University of North Carolina Pembroke finished third as a team with last year's women's team champion, Montevallo, coming home fourth. Georgia College, Young Harris College, Flagler College, North Georgia, Augusta State University, Georgia Southwestern University, the University of South Carolina Aiken and Francis Marion University rounded out the women's 6K race.

UNC Pembroke's Liva Mahaffie claimed the individual crown in a time of 22:36.83 and cruised across the finish line 10 seconds before second-place Kaley Glover from Montevallo finished.

Emily Beusse led the Saints improved her time by 19 seconds to finish 12th in a time of 23:22.23.

Emily Roemer was the second runner across the finish line for the Saints, finishing 46th in a time of 25:24.53, knocking nearly 25 seconds off her previous 6K time.

Meagan Anstett and Sallie Davis finished within five seconds of each other with Anstett's 25:30.00 and Davis' in a time of 25:35.48. Both knocked off nearly a solid minute from the last time the team competed on the course.

Karley Barcus came home in a time of 26:35.43 with Nicole Shine finishing in a time of 26:43.15 and Connie Steinmann in a time of 27:08.93 to round out the scoring. Both Shine and Steinmann knocked off nearly two minutes from their previous times.

Alexia Miller and Lauren Turner also raced in times of 28:42.15 and 28:46.70 while Laura Knox finished in a time of 29:58.65 in just her third meet of the season.

The Saints will continue training for the next two weeks leading up to the 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships held in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday, Nov. 3.
