Cross Country Set To Open Season This Saturday
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia College
& State University cross country teams will make their much
anticipated debut Saturday morning in Alabama, competing at the
2009 Jacksonville State University Struts Season Opener.
The men’s and women’s teams will take the course against some of the best teams in the southeast, including Alabama A&M, Kennesaw State University, West Georgia, and Miles College, while league rival Clayton State University will also be on hand as the only other Peach Belt Conference school in attendance.
The women will start things off at 9:00 a.m. Central Standard Time, taking to the two-mile course, while the men will follow on the 5K course at 9:30 a.m.
The race will take place at Oxford Lake and Recreation Park in Oxford, Alabama, and results will be available at www.SaintsSports.com immediately following the event.
First-year head coach Tom Williams will look to Teale Marchette and Tyler Mattix to continue their strides to front of the pack on the men’s team as the duo finished 18th and 28th respectively at the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Championships.
2008 Peach Belt All-Conference performer Katie Vance returns for her sophomore campaign and will look to build on a season-high 11th place finish at the Suwanee Invitation last year, while posting a personal best time of 20:17 at the Mercer Invitational in Macon, Georgia.
North Georgia will depart campus at 6:05 Eastern Standard Time on Saturday morning in preparation for the women’s warm-up that will begin at approximately 8:20 Central Standard Time.
