Saints Take 6th at JSU Foothills Invitational


OXFORD, AL – The North Georgia men’s cross country team competed Saturday morning at the Jacksonville State University Foothills Invitational, coming in 6th place in the field of seven as the Saints continue preparation for the PBC Championships later this month.

Emory University dominated the event, placing three runners in the top four places to post 17 total points and come away with the victory. Alabama-Huntsville took second with 64 points, while West Alabama was fourth, North Alabama fifth, and North Georgia was sixth with 139 points.

Tyler Mattix led the team for a fifth straight week, finishing in 24th place and recording a time of 27:18, his best mark of the 2009 campaign. Teale Marchette finished ten spots later in 34th position, crossing the line in 28:00 minutes.

Charlie McKinney finished 44th overall in 28:29, while Charles Buesse was 47th with a time of 28:40. Nicholas Baba rounded out the scoring for the Saints, finishing 54th overall with a time of 29:14, his best time of the season.

Emory’s Tommy Fiffe won the individual title with a time of 24:34, while Jacksonville State’s David Nilsson was second overall at 24:44.

North Georgia will have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, October 24, at the Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted this year by UNC Pembroke at Luther Britt Park in Lumberton, North Carolina.
