Oster and Airich awarded All-Region Gold Gloves
Both infielders will be on ballot for All-American honors
SAVANNAH, GA - North Georgia College & State University placed two players on the Rawlings/ABCA All-Southeast Region Gold Glove Team announced yesterday afternoon. Both Anders Oster and Andre Airich were named First Team for their defensive efforts this season.
After being named First Team, Oster and Airich are now eligible to be selected as national Gold Glove winners, an award a North Georgia athlete is yet to receive since entering the NCAA. The Division II All-America Gold Glove team will be announced at next week's Division II Baseball Championship in Sauget, IL.
Anders Oster finished the season with a .963 fielding percentage, recording 110 putouts and 250 assists, shattering the school record which previously stood at 193. Oster also set the program mark for career assists, vaulting to first place with 618 after just his junior season. He also set the school record for double plays turned with 43, taking over the previous mark of 41. Oster committed just 14 errors during the 2008 season, including a stretch that saw him commit just one error over 18 games.
Andre Airich completed the 2008 season with a fielding percentage of .926, committing just 16 errors in 215 chances. He registered 60 putouts and 139 assists while helping turn 11 double plays. After moving over to third base for the 08' season, Airich finished the year strong with just one error over his final 13 games.
