JEFFERSON CITY, TN – 6th-ranked North Georgia rallied from a five-run first-inning deficit and scored two runs in the ninth inning to defeat Carson-Newman 9-7 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Saints improve to 12-5 overall, while Carson-Newman falls to 11-8 on the season.

With two on and two outs in the ninth inning, North Georgia’s Chad Sage broke a 7-7 deadlock, reaching base on an error to score two runs and give the Saints a come-from-behind victory.

The Saints found themselves down 5-0 after the first inning, but rallied with three runs in the third and fifth innings before adding a single run in the seventh and two in the ninth for the victory.

In the third, JD Burgess walked with the bases full to bring home the first run, and Andre Airich capped off the three-run inning with a single to drive home Burgess and make it 5-3.

North Georgia capitalized on two Carson-Newman errors in the fifth inning and Airich came through again, producing the only RBI of the inning as the Saints took their first lead of the game 6-5.

After adding a single run in the seveth inning to make it 7-5, the Eagles rallied with two runs of their own to set up the ninth inning heroics. The Saints record their eighth comeback win of the season and extend their current winning streak to three games.

Jacob Rickett (2-1) came on in relief to pick up the win, while Justin Yackee pitched to three batters in the ninth to slam the door and pick up his fifth save of the season.

The Saints return to action tomorrow afternoon against Carson-Newman, wrapping up a two-game series with these same Eagles at 1:00 p.m.
