#7 Saints Fall Short, Split with Catawba College
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia jumped out
to a first-inning lead, but the Indians of Catawba College rallied
to defeat the Saints 7-3 Wednesday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium
in non-conference action.
The Saints fall to 15-8 overall as they split a two-game series
with the Indians, while Catawba improves to 10-6 on the season.
The Saints jumped on the board first in the opening inning as Brad
Hall guided a ball through the left side to bring Jordan Erisman
for a 1-0 advantage.
Catawba would come right back and take the lead over the next two
innings, scoring a run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly, and
pulling ahead in the third frame on a Josh Hohn solo home run and a
two-out single to make it 4-1 after five innings.
In the sixth, the Saints pulled to within a run as Andre Airich
singled home Erisman, and Zach Bennett launched a solo home run two
batters later as North Georgia made it a 4-3 Indian lead.
Catawba answered right back with two runs of their own in the
seventh inning as Kevin McMillan doubled to left center with two
outs to make the lead three runs again at 6-3. The Indians would
add one more run to take game two 7-3 and earn a series split with
the Saints.
Blake Ketner (4-0) picks up the win for Catawba, tossing 5.2
innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. Mark Thomas (0-1)
suffered the loss in relief, lasting 5.0 innings and giving up
three runs on as many hits while striking out two.
North Georgia returns to action over the weekend, traveling to
Georgia College & State University to take on the Bobcats for a
three-game Peach Belt Conference series.
