Saints Blank Flagler 3-0 in Rain-Delayed Contest
DAHLONEGA, GA
– North Georgia College & State University scored a run
in the first inning which proved to be enough in a 3-0 shutout of
Flagler College, fighting through an eighth inning rain delay to
take game two of the series at Bob Stein Stadium.
North Georgia improves to 31-23, winning seven of their last eight
games, while Flagler College falls to 17-35 overall.
With two outs in the top of the eighth inning, the skies opened up
and play was suspended for one hour and five minutes before Garrett
Lussi ended the half inning with a three-pitch strikeout of Kirby
Johnson.
North Georgia struck first in the opening inning, using
back-to-back doubles by Craig Brisson and Jordan Erisman for a 1-0
advantage.
After the first two hitters of the game reached base for North
Georgia, Flagler’s Jonny Gaines then shut down the home team,
not allowing another hit until the fifth inning when Brisson forced
the issue on a ball in the gap and ended up with a one out triple.
Andre Airich and Brad Hall followed and delivered back-to-back
doubles, scoring two more runs for a 3-0 North Georgia lead.
Michael Patton (6-3) picked up the victory, allowing six hits and
no runs while striking out six in 7.0 innings of work as the
sophomore extended his scoreless innings streak to 16. Lussi came
on to slam the door in the final two innings to pick up his second
save of the season.
Gaines (5-6) sufferd the loss for Flagler, going 7.0 innings and
allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out 10 North
Georgia batters.
North Georgia and Flagler will play the final game of the series
Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. The North
Georgia seniors will be honored prior to the game, before Tyler
Musslewhite takes the mound in the Saints' regular season
finale.
