#17 Saints Thrill Crowd with Late-Innning Blast
DAHLONEGA, GA – 17th-ranked North Georgia
went down to the wire with Pfeiffer University in their first game
of the season and used a two-out three-run blast from Anders Oster
in the eighth inning to send the Saints home 4-1 winners at the
brand new Bob Stein Stadium.
Pfeiffer jumped on the board in the third inning when Eric
Shoemaker walked, stole second, and Will Davis singled to
centerfield to score the game’s first run.
The Saints responded in the fourth inning as Brad Hall sent a line
drive down the left field line that cleared the fence and tied the
game at 1-1.
A pitchers duel dominted the middle to late innings as Ben Beard
struckout 12 in six innings of work for Pfeiffer, and James Wiley
held the Falcons at bay over seven innings of work.
With both teams putting up single runs early in the game, North
Georgia capitalized on an infield single and a walk in the eighth
inning to send Oster to the plate for the late-inning heroics.
Justin Yackee (1-0) picks up the win for North Georgia in relief,
tossing a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts, while Jacob
Rickett came on in the ninth and slammed the door for his first
save of the year.
With the brand new Bob Stein Stadium open to the public for the
first time, 274 spectators piled into the facility, while nearly
100 fans watched from the trail behind the left field fence.
#17 North Georgia (1-0) returns to action tomorrow afternoon,
hosting #12 Delta State University at 3:00 p.m., while Pfeiffer
University (2-2) will take on the Statesmen in the early game at
12-noon.
