Walks Plague Saints in 10-5 Loss to West Florida
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College
& State University managed nine hits, but the Argonauts of West
Florida were not to be denied, outlasting the Saints 10-5 Tuesday
evening under the light at Bob Stein Stadium in non-conference
action.
The Saints fall to 19-17 overall, while West Florida carries their
record to 24-15 on the season.
In the last of the first inning, Andre Airich provided a spark
with a solo blast down the right field line, his fifth home run of
the year to give North Georgia a 1-0 lead.
West Florida would not be down for long however, plating six runs
in the second innings before adding single runs in the fourth and
fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 10-1 lead. Kyle Brown
delivered a bases loaded triple in the second frame, clearing the
bases as part of the six-run inning.
West Florida added runs on singles by Zach Cates and Greg Pron in
the second inning, before Brandon Brewer singled to center field in
the fifth inning to bring Tyler Hastings Racing home and extend the
Argonauts lead to seven runs at 8-1.
After West Florida added two more runs in the sixth frame on a
throwing error, the Saints got back in the scoring column with a
double off the bat of Adam Baker, bringing Airich all the way
around to score and make it 10-2.
North Georgia added a single run in the seventh before plating two
more in the eighth to bring the Saints to within five runs at 10-5.
Airich singled home the run in the seventh, while Craig Brisson
sent a liner to right field to plate Logan Sharrett for the final
run of the game.
Brandon Garcia (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season in the
defeat, allowing five earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of
work.
Ryan Sorce (3-2) picked up the win for West Florida, lasting 6.0
innings and giving up two runs on five hits while striking out
three.
These same two teams will go at it again tomorrow afternoon with
first pitch set for 3:00 p.m. at Bob Stein Stadium.
