Valdosta State Too Much for Saints, Win 11-2
DAHLONEGA, GA – Valdosta State University
scored 11 runs on as many hits as the Blazers took down North
Georgia 11-2 Tuesday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium in
non-conference action.
North Georgia falls to 15-12 on the season, while Valdosta State
improves to 21-9 on the year.
After the Blazers put the first run on the board in the second
inning, the Saints came right back and tied the game on a two-out
Adam Baker double to deep center, scoring Brad Hall and making it
1-1.
Valdosta State could do little wrong in their half of the fourth
inning, sending 13 batters to the plate and putting seven hits
together to score eight runs. Sho Kohata singled home the first run
of the inning, while Jon Koenigsfeld, Brandon Decker, and Matt
Costello each drove in a pair of runs in the frame. The Saints
handed the Blazers another run in the fifth inning with a bases
loaded walk to make it 10-1.
North Georgia came back with a single run in the sixth inning as
Hall delivered his fourth home run of the year to make it 10-2.
Valdosta State added one more run in the eighth inning on a
sacrifice fly as the Blazers pulled out the 11-2 victory.
Blake Hobby (2-2) suffered the loss in 3.1 innings of work,
allowing eight runs on four hits, while Thomas Tripp (2-0) picked
up the win in relief, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing two hits and
one earned run.
North Georgia will host Valdosta State again tomorrow afternoon
with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
