Baseball Ranked for 9th Straight Week in DII Poll
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia baseball team is ranked for the 9th
straight week in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division
II Top 30 poll released on Monday afternoon, dropping two spots to
No. 19 in the country.
The Saints are currently 31-15 on the season as the team closes in
on the backstretch to the 2010 regular season. Last week, North
Georgia won two of three games, taking a 10-inning 5-4 victory over
West Georgia, before splitting a pair against Truett-McConnell
College over the weekend.
The Peach Belt Conference’s presence in the poll was
stronger than ever as six league teams appeared in the national
ranking. Francis Marion stayed locked into the No. 5 spot in the
poll, while GCSU moved inside the top 10 to the No. 8, and Columbus
State rounds out the top 10 at 36-10 on the season. Following North
Georgia at No. 19, UNC Pembroke comes in at No. 21, while USC Aiken
rounds out the conference schools at No. 25.
Central Missouri makes their debut as the nation’s top team
at 39-5 on the year, while UC San Diego follows in second, and
Tampa is third. Southern Arkansas relinquishes their hold of the
top spot as they fall to No. 4 in the country at 39-6 on the
season.
North Georgia will see plenty of Flagler College in the next two
weeks, as the Saints will travel to St. Augustine this weekend for
a three-game series. The Peach Belt Conference has also released
the 2010 PBC baseball tournament bracket that features North
Georgia and Flagler in the opening round of the classic.
Flagler and North Georgia will play their opening-round game at
Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Ga., at 11:00 am on Saturday, May
8. Lake Olmstead Stadium is the home of the South Atlantic
League’s single-A Augusta Greenjackets.
