North Georgia Baseball Claims 4-2 Victory Over Salem International
DAHLONEGA, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia baseball team earned its second win of the season on Saturday with a 4-2 win over Salem International University at Bob Stein Stadium. Kevin Krupp belted a two-RBI homerun in the bottom of the first inning to propel the Nighthawks to the non-conference victory.
The Nighthawks would tack on the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the fourth when a single through the left side by Joey Cecere plated Travis Naraine.
SIU cut the North Georgia lead to 3-2 in the top half of the next inning when Austin Ligons singled up the middle scoring a pair of Tigers.
The Nighthawks final damage came in the bottom of the eighth inning when a single by Trevor Sams scored Ryan Raper who earlier reached on an error.
Clint Spratlin earned the victory on the mound pitching six and two-thirds innings striking out five Tigers while spreading around five hits. Christian Turnipseed posted his second save in two days pitching a clean ninth inning by striking out the side.
North Georgia outhit the Tigers 7-5 and Salem International was plagued by three fielding miscues. Offensively, Raper was the only Nighthawk to post a multiple-hit afternoon going 2-4 from the plate with a run scored.
North Georgia (2-3) will look to complete the three-game series sweep with the final game with Salem International set for a 12:00 PM first pitch tomorrow (Feb. 9) at Bob Stein Stadium.
