Saint Men Help Distribute Toys for Families
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – As the holiday season approaches there will be many families around the country who have to go without. But the North Georgia College & State University men's basketball team did their part Thursday morning to help families in Lumpkin County have a happier holiday season.
The Saints went to St. Luke's Catholic Church where they helped prepare the church for distributing over 250 presents as part of Lumpkin County's White Christmas program sponsored by the Community Helping Place.
The North Georgia men unloaded a truck loaded with the gifts and helped organize the gifts inside St. Luke's so they can be distributed to the families, giving the children a better Christmas.
"I really enjoyed helping out at the church today," said Richardson. "Being able to volunteer and give back to the community, especially at this time of year, is a great feeling. They support us a lot, and it's just nice to be able to support them in return."
Hollis offered up a quote from Henry Ford that was shared with him by his high school coach, " 'Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is a success.' Today made me think of this team and not just what we are doing on the court this season, but also off it.
"I really appreciate the people that are involved in helping the kids out with this," continued Hollis. "I know when I was younger, I sometimes didn't get many gifts and I know that kids want and deserve gifts. To be able to help provide those for them is an awesome feeling and I appreciate what everyone in the community has done. We were only a little part of this, but it was a great thing to be a part of."
"It's great to have the opportunity to help with this program," stated head coach Chris Faulkner. "Our players really enjoy this and it also helps everyone realize how fortunate we are."
