Jaguars Run Away From Nighthawks 97-71
AUGUSTA, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – Georgia Regents University connected on 9-13 three-pointers in the second half to pull away from the University of North Georgia men's basketball team on Saturday in Peach Belt action in GRU's Christenberry Fieldhouse. A 22-2 run over a five-minute span late in the second half was the difference as the host Jaguars used the long distance jump shot to fuel the decisive run.
GRU (14-2, 7-0 PBC) earned its 11th consecutive victory on the season and remains one of two unbeaten teams in Peach Belt play.
North Georgia led 40-37 at the break but would be outscored 60-31 after intermission. The game was tied a 51 with just under 14 minutes left but the Jaguar offense would explode courtesy of Devonte Thomas' perfect 6-6 from downtown.
Ishmael Hollis led three Nighthawks in double-figures with 23 points while Lamar Richardson and Shaquan Cantrell added 10 points apiece.
Thomas would finish with a game-high 26 for the Jaguars on 7-8 from three-point. KJ Sherrill added while Devon Wright-Nelson pitched in with 12 for GRU.
North Georgia (6-7, 3-4 PBC) returns to action with a road trip to USC Aiken on Monday night with tip off set for 7:30 PM. The game will be the second of a four-game road swing spanning eight days.
