Men's Golf takes 15th at NCAA Regional Preview

DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia College & State University men’s golf team completed their fall schedule Tuesday afternoon, finishing 15th place in the field of 16 teams at the Will Wilson NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Preview hosted by Belmont Abbey.

Barton College captured the title by two strokes over USC Aiken, shooting a 39-over par 879, outlasting the Pacers two strokes, who were runner-up at the event. Belmont Abbey was third, Lander fourth, and Flagler rounded out the top five. North Georgia was 106-over par, shooting a 946, good for 15th place overall.

Howard Duffin led the Saints, finishing in a tie for 44th place overall after rounds of 76, 74, and 80 to finish 20-over par. Jake Martin followed in a tie for 56th place, recording an opening round 79, second round 81, and responding with a season-low 74 in the final round.

Stanley Roberts finished alone in 71st place at 33-over par, shooting rounds of 80 and 84, before coming back with a season-low 79 in the final round. After a trio of rounds in the 70’s to open the year, Brian Mallory finished 74th overall after rounds of 83, 82, and 82 to finish at 37-over par with a total score of 247.

Matt Rochlin finished fifth for the Saints, shooting a 38-over par in the three-day event. The Roswell, Ga., native shot a season-low 77 in the opening round, before recording an 82 and 89 in the final two rounds to finish in a tie for 76th place overall.

North Georgia ends the fall season after playing in the Kiawah Invitational, Piedmont Invitational, and the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Preview. The Saints notched a pair of 15th place finishes, and a season-best 7th at the Piedmont Invitational hosted by The Orchard Golf & Country Club.

The Saints will now turn their attention to the spring season that will feature a full slate of tournaments, including the program’s first-ever Peach Belt Conference Tournament hosted by Columbus State at Calloway Gardens April 12-13, 2010. The event will feature 36 holes on Monday followed the final round 18 holes on Tuesday on Mountain View Course.
