Men's Golf Takes 9th in Final Event of Fall Campaign
CLEMMONS, NC – The North Georgia men's golf
team put a lid on their fall season on Tuesday afternoon, taking
9th place in the field of 13 teams at the Will Wilson Southeast
Regional Preview at Tanglewood Park Golf Club Championship
Course.
Newberry captured the team title in the event with a team score of
861 (295-282-284). The Wolves finished two strokes ahead of second
place Queens (295-286-282), while UNC Pembroke rounded out the top
three at 881 (290-294-297). North Georgia's 889 (302-293-294)
was good for 9th place in the 13-team field.
Daniel Stanley from Newberry claimed individual medalist honors in
the event. Stanley carded an impressive 66 in the third and final
round to finish at 211 (78-67-66). Carson-Newman's Liam Ashby
(69-73-70) and UNC Pembroke's Jonathan McCurry (69-73-70) ended the
event tied for second individually at 212.
Howard Duffin continued to surge on the final day, recording a
1-over-par 71 to finish in a tie for 9th place at 8-over-par, while
Brian Mallory finished at 11-over-par following a final round 74,
good for a 18th place overall.
Bryson Womack carded a final round 75 to stay in contention and
finish at 26-over-par for the three-day event, while Grant Rish
ended in a tie for 43rd place overall at 17-over-par. Jake Martin
rounded out the team in 67th place, finishing with a 76, his lowest
round of the event, to end the tournament at 35-over-par.
The Will Wilson Southeast Regional Preview ends the fall season for
the Saints as they will now gear up a full slate of events in the
spring, culminating with the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Tournament
on April 11-12, at the Savannah Quarters Country Club hosted by
Armstrong Atlantic.
