Motz Finishes Second As Nighthawks Move One Spot At Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate
SEVIERVILLE, Tennessee - (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia men's golf team improved one stroke with a second round 295 for a 36-hole total of 591 (296-295) which was good for a tie for third place at the 18-team Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate hosted by Carson-Newman University at The River Course. The Nighthawks were able to move up one slot on the leaderboard and finished in a tie for third with Lee University.
UNG's Michael Motz narrowly missed forcing a playoff for medalist as the senior transfer finished a single shot behind medalist Matt Emery of Lee University who carded a 70-71—141. Motz followed yesterday's three-under par 69 with a one-over 73 today to finish at 142 for the tournament. Patrick Kim of Clayton State shared runner up honors with Motz after carding the day's low round of 69 (73-69—142).
Clayton State University ran away with the team honors after posting a 286-292—578 to finish seven strokes clear of runner up Queens University of Charlotte (294-291—585).
UNG's Nick Green finished in a tie for 23rd out of 96 golfers with a 75-74—149. Will Brackett rebounded from yesterday's 79 to improve eight strokes with a one-under 71 (79-71—150). Aaron George rounded out the Nighthawks' scoring with a 77 to go along with his 75 for a 152 total.
North Georgia returns to the links on September 16-17 when the team travels to Kiawah Island, S.C to take part in The Kiawah Island Invitational hosted by USC-Aiken at Cougar Point Golf Course at the Kiawah Island Resort.
