Nighthawks Struggle On Opening Day Of Kiawah Island Intercollegiate
KIAWAH ISLAND, South Carolina – (UNGAthletics.com) – Competing against a top-tier NCAA Division II field, the University of North Georgia men's golf team found tough sailing in the opening round of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate hosted by USC-Aiken at Cougar Point Golf Club. The Nighthawks carded 312 team score and finds themselves in 17th place out of 17 teams at the tournament's midway point.
North Georgia's Will Brackett managed the team's low score with a four-over 76 which is good for a tie for 51st place in the 85-man field. Aaron George (78, t62nd) and Nick Green (79, 70th) were just a few strokes back of Brackett's score. Michael Motz rounded out the Nighthawks' team score with an eight-over 80.
Peach Belt member #20 Armstrong Atlantic State University leads the team standings after registering an 11-under par 277. The Pirates are five shots clear of second place USC-Aiken and North Alabama.
Individually Spencer Schindler of Flagler and Chris Fuga of Coker College carded identical 67's (-5) and share the individual lead.
Twenty-one golfers and six teams were able to post red numbers in good scoring conditions.
UNG trails Belmont Abbey by eight strokes heading into tomorrow's final round.
