Saints Weather Hurricanes in 3-0 Shutout
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia
men’s soccer team finally broke through in league play
Tuesday afternoon, scoring a pair of first half goals before
defeating Georgia Southwestern 3-0 in Peach Belt Conference action
at the Soccer Complex.
North Georgia picks up their second straight victory, improving to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Hurricanes fall to 2-11 overall, and 0-4 in the league.
Chris Griffith got the Saints on the board first as Juan Hurtado sent a pass to Griffith who lined it home for a 1-0 North Georgia lead. The goal in the 16th minute was Griffith’s fourth of the season.
Chris Bishop gave the Saints a two-goal lead in the 32nd minute as the freshman scored his first collegiate goal to give North Georgia a 2-0 advantage, a score that held true until intermission.
Hurtado provided more heroics in the second half as the Cali, Colombia, native notched his third goal of the season in the 48th minute, taking a pass from Eric York to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.
Rade Tanaskovic went the distance for the Saints in goal, recording three saves will pitching a shutout. David Porley suffered the loss in goal for GSW, allowing all three North Georgia goals while picking up six saves.
The Saints return to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Francis Marion to take on the Patriots in a Peach Belt Conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Florence, South Carolina.
