FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The North Georgia Saints men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Nova Southeastern on Friday night after 90 minutes and a pair of overtime periods.
Rade Tanaskovic made plenty of big saves and the Saints' defense controlled Nova but couldn't get a finish on the offensive side of the pitch. Tanaskovic made a huge save with about two minutes left in the second overtime period by deflecting a Sharks' shot attempt that would end up hitting off the right side of the post, allowing the Saints to escape with a draw. Tanaskovic finished with six saves total in the game.
The Saints doubled up the Sharks in shot attempts in the first half 8-4 and the opposite was true in the second half as Nova had the advantage 7-4. There were 27 total shots taken in the game and not one of them found the back of the net for either team.
Coach Pat Parris played 17 players in the match, as the game lasted 120 minutes to go along with the Florida heat. Zachry Samples and Tanaskovic logged all 120 for the Saints.
The Sharks appeared to have a scored what would have been the game-winning goal in the first overtime period, but an offside call against the hosts negated the shot. The fans and Nova players obviously disagreed, but the Saints aren't looking back and will take the scoreless draw.
North Georgia will now get a days' rest before finishing the Florida swing, this time against Barry University. The game is set for a 1:30 pm kickoff in Miami Shores, Florida.
