DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia men's soccer head coach Pat Parris has finalized his 2012 schedule that will feature six home games and 16 total matches.
The program will look to build on some recent success by challenging themselves this season out of conference, including the always-tough PBC schedule.
The Saints, who went 9-7-1 last season, will take part in two difficult tournaments to start the season.
After a trio of exhibition games starting on August 14 against NCAA Division I member Mercer, North Georgia will take part in the seventh annual Laker Shootout in Morrow, Georgia. The event will be hosted by Peach Belt-foe Clayton State.
While there, the Saints will take on a pair of Conference Carolinas members in Queens University (Aug 31) and Pfeiffer University (Sep 1). Queens went 6-10 last season while Pfeiffer finished 3-13-1, including a 0-2 record in last year's Laker Shootout.
The following weekend they will travel to Tampa Bay, Florida, to play in the first annual Peach Belt-Sunshine State Challenge, hosted by the University of Tampa.
Two difficult games are on tap for the Saints, as they challenge Tampa (Sep 6) and Eckerd College (Sep 8) in the tournament. North Georgia took down Tampa last season 2-1 in overtime in Dahlonega.
Lenoir-Rhyne comes to town on September 11, and then the newest team to the PBC, Young Harris, visits the North Georgia Soccer Complex on September 15. The men's soccer team will also honor the North Georgia class of 1972 during the game against the Mountain Lions.
Back-to-back road games follow the two-game home stand, as the Saints travel to Lees-McRae (Sep 19) and Anderson (Sep 26) in the following weeks.
North Georgia then tackles the remaining conference schedule for eight straight games to end the season.
Francis Marion (Sep 29) starts a string of three-out-of-four home games for the Saints. Montevallo (Oct 3) and Clayton State (Oct 10) also come to Dahlonega in that stretch. The Saints travel to Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, October 6.
Pat Parris' club then hits the road for three straight games against UNC Pembroke (Oct 13), Flagler (Oct 20) and Lander (Oct 24).
They close the year at home against USC Aiken on Saturday, October 27. The Peach Belt Conference Tournament will be played on Tuesday, October 30 (quarterfinals), and the semi-finals and championship will be played in Augusta, Georgia, on November 2 and 4.
The slate will be a challenging one for the 2012 North Georgia Saints, but that is just what head coach Pat Parris and this maturing team had hopes of doing.
