MORROW, Ga. – The North Georgia College & State men's soccer team opened up the regular-season Friday evening in the Clayton State Laker Shootout with a non-conference bout against Queens University out of Charlotte, N.C. The Saints ultimately fell 2-1 to the Royals in the tournament's first game.
North Georgia wasted little time to get on the scoreboard as Tyler Daly scored on the Saints' second shot just 15:01 into the contest. He was assisted on the play by Gustavo Cunha to put the Saints up 1-0, but the lead would not last long.
About 15 minutes later, the Royals' Kevin Anderson knotted the score at one-all off an assist by Yannick Fiscbach. The score would remained tied into intermission.
Both teams came out of halftime making aggressive plays towards the goal, but it was Queens acquiring the go-ahead goal late in the second half. Erick Suarez scored the winning goal off an assist by Gersi Cilingiri with about 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
Queens slightly out-shot North Georgia 12-11 in the contest with both goalies making five saves. The Saints held a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Saints will continue their time in the Laker Shootout tomorrow evening against Pfeiffer University at 5 p.m.
