Erskine Holds Off Nighthawks At 9th Annual Loch Shop Classic
MORROW, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia men's soccer team fell to 1-3 on the season as the Nighthawks were on the short end of a 3-1 decision with Erskine College. The game was held at Clayton State University as part of the 9th Annual Loch Shop Classic.
Erskine wasted little time as Andrew Settlemire found the back of the net following an assist from Roberto De La Vina. The game's first score came just 2:29 into the contest.
The Fleet (1-2) would extend the lead to 2-0 at the 25:14 mark when Tobias Betz scored using a helper from Victor Nirennold as that advantage would hold up until intermission.
At the 60:58 mark, Erskine would tack on another goal when Ross Henderson scored with the assist credited to Jonathan Rutter following a long cross in front of the goal face.
The Nighthawks were able to light the scoreboard for the first time since the team's season opener when Alexandro Martinez scored after Irving Salgado fed him in the middle of the goal box.
In his first start in goal, UNG goalkeeper Diego Casillas tallied five saves on eight shots that found the mark. Counterpart De La Vina turned away six of the Nighthawks' shots to record his first victory of the season.
North Georgia held a 25-19 advantage in shots including a decisive 16-9 benefit in the second half. The Nighthawks would also take seven of the game's eight corner kicks.
UNG will wrap up the Loch Shop Classic tomorrow afternoon with a 5:00 PM start against Pfeiffer University.
