Montevallo Downs Men's Soccer 3-1 In Peach Belt Action
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – (UNGAthletics.com) – Host Montevallo ended a two-match losing streak with a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over the University of North Georgia men's soccer team on Wednesday at UM's Varsity Field. The Falcons saw three different goal scorers find the back of the net en route to their fourth victory of the season.
Alex Morton used an assist from Gary O'Neill at the 9:23 mark to open the game's scoring before teammate Bruno Mbamala would use a David Thomas helper in the 25th minute to net the eventual game-winner and extend the Falcon lead to 2-0.
The Nighthawks (1-10-0, 0-3-0 ) would trim the Montevallo lead in half when Daniel Bowlt would score his first goal of the season when the sophomore capitalized on a penalty kick just 63 seconds before intermission.
After both teams tallied an equal six shots before intermission, the UNG defense would hold its ground and fend off 10 Montevallo chances in the second half compared to the Nighthawks' three shots. The Falcons' offensive pressure finally broke through in the 76th minute when O'Neill would use an assist from Ricky Davey to notch the scoreboard's final tally.
In goal, UM's Brenden Ledgeway earned the victory despite not recording a save as Bowlt's goal was the only shot the Nighthawks were able to put on frame. UNG's Kris Alonzo tallied three saves against six chances in the loss.
Montevallo (4-6-0, 2-3-0 PBC) held a decisive 8-2 advantage in corner kicks on the night.
The loss marks North Georgia's 10th consecutive as the Nighthawks (1-10-0, 0-3-0) return to action on Saturday, October 12 when they play host to Georgia Southwestern with a 3:30 kick off at the UNG Soccer Complex.
