Soccer Teams Slated To Host Flagler In PBC Action As Part Of Club Appreciation Day

DAHLONEGA, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia men's and women's soccer teams are set to return to the UNG Soccer Complex with a doubleheader of Peach Belt Conference games slated with visiting Flagler College.  The afternoon will be billed as Club Appreciation Day with recognition of the various local youth soccer club teams.  Admission is free for those who wear their club jersey and there will be competitions with prizes at half time, face painting and tailgating games available to all Club Appreciation Day participants.

Coverage of the Peach Belt doubleheader will be on the UNG Sports Network and will include a live statistics and live video interface.  The women's game is slated for a 1:00 start with the men scheduled to kick off at 3:30.

Women's Game Notes: Flagler (5-8-2, 1-5-2 PBC) vs. North Georgia (10-3-1, 5-2-1 PBC)

LAST TIME OUT: In a battle of regionally-ranked teams, the University of North Georgia women's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Columbus State University 3-2 on Wednesday in a pivotal Peach Belt Conference contest at CSU's Walden Soccer Complex.  Senior Kelly Penston was involved in all three of the Nighthawks' scores including a goal and a pair of assists.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS: Cassie Fernandez scored the only goal of the game and with just 1:10 remaining in regulation to lead Flagler College to a 1-0 win over North Greenville University in a non-conference women's soccer match Monday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium in Tigerville, S.C.  Flagler snapped its six-match winless streak and improved to 5-8-2 overall.  Fernandez is the team's leading goal score with a team-best 7 goals.  In goal Casey Merson has started 11 matches and earned the victory in goal on Monday.  She has collected 61 saves and a pair of shutouts. 

PENSTON OFFENSIVE RANKINGS:  Following Wednesday's four-point night, UNG senior Kelly Penston stands atop the Peach Belt Conference goals scored category with 14.  In the most recent NCAA Division II statistical rankings she ranks in a tie for seventh in goals per game (1.00) and 10th in points per game (2.23).   This season she as tallied three multiple-goal games and posted a mid-season stretch of 10 consecutive matches with a goal. 

Men's Game Notes: #22 Flagler (8-3-2, 5-2-1 PBC) vs. North Georgia (3-11-1, 1-4-1 PBC)

LAST TIME OUT: It has been a full calendar week since the Nighthawks' last action when UNG used a second half equalizer from Daniel Bowlt force an eventual 1-1 draw with visiting University of North Carolina Pembroke last Saturday night in Peach Belt Conference action at the UNG Soccer Complex.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS: The Flagler College men's soccer team is ranked second in the first of three NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings which was released Wednesday.  The Saints are also ranked #22 nationally in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division II poll.  Flagler joins Young Harris (#3) in representing the Peach Belt in the national rankings.  Marco Warren (7) and Zach Shanahan (6) have combined for 13 of the team's 24 goals. Camp Bissell has recorded seven victories in goal and carries a stingy 1.17 goals against average.

BOWLT STREAKING:  Sophomore Daniel Bowlt has tallied two of the Nighthawks' game winners in the team's current four match stretch that includes a pair of victories and a hard-fought draw.  The defender has scored in five consecutive matches.
