Men's Tennis Runs by West Alabama in Home Opener
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia men's tennis team made it two straight wins on Saturday afternoon, playing host to the University of West Alabama and taking down the Tigers 7-2 at Yahoola Creek Park in non-conference action.
North Georgia improves to 2-0 on the year, taking the program's home opener for the 2011 campaign, while West Alabama falls to 2-3 on the young season.
The Saints got off to a fast start for the second straight match as Brandon Sloan and Felipe Friedrich held serve at No. 1, topping the duo of Santiago Lopez and Wade Covington 8-5. Meteus Camasmie and Adrien Saulais rolled to an 8-2 victory at No. 2, setting up a breeze for Giovani Santos and Ernesto Farinas who made it a clean sweep in doubles with an 8-1 win.
Needing just two more points to win the match, Friedrich took care of business 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1, while Camasmie followed with a 6-1, 7-5 victory to secure the victory. Santos and Saulais would pick up easy wins as well, combining to drop just six games in four sets as the Saints picked up the 7-2 victory.
North Georgia will look to make it three straight wins to open the season on Sunday evening, but the Saints will have to go through a Division I opponent, traveling to nearby Georgia State University to square off against the Panthers. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Piedmont Park Tennis Complex in Atlanta, Georgia.
