ROME, GA – The North Georgia men's tennis team dropped their season opener on Thursday afternoon falling 5-4 to Shorter at the Walt Attaway Tennis Complex.
The Saints got off to a hot start, winning two of the three doubles contests, but faltered in singles play, winning only two of the six contests.
In No. 1 doubles, sophomore Mateus Camasmie and freshman Matheus Guida cruised to an 8-3 victory over Guillaume Ledrap and Romain Lefevre, while freshman Sam Gantt and junior Ernesto Farinias took down Arturo Lifshitz and Colt Kelley 8-5 in No. 3 doubles.
Camasmie stayed hot, finishing the day a perfect 2-0 as he cruised to another straight set victory over Ledrap 6-3, 7-5 in No. 1 singles.
Not to be outdone, Farinias also finished the day unscathed, scoring a come from behind 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kelley in No. 6 singles action.
Guida played Lefevre tough at No. 2 singles in arguably the most entertaining match of the day, but dropped the three-set thriller 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (5).
The Saints return to action on Sunday, February 5, as they travel to Wingate for their second of five straight road matches to open the season. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Wingate University Tennis Complex.
