Friedrich Moves up to 31st in Country, Men's Tennis Slips to 32nd
SKILLMAN, N.J. – University of North Georgia senior men's tennis player Felipe Friedrich moved up into the national rankings as a singles player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) first individual rankings of the year.
As a team, the Saint men (7-6, 1-6 PBC) slipped two spots to 32nd-nationally in the poll released late Wednesday after posting three wins in a row over non-conference opponents. The Saints checked in at 10th in the Southeast Region in the poll released last week.
Friedrich, who plays No. 1 singles for North Georgia, is 10-3 for the season, including two wins over nationally-ranked players, and has won his last five matches. Earlier this season, he defeated Jose Martinez of Flagler College and Alex Caspari of Francis Marion University. Martinez was ranked 40th in the nation when Friedrich claimed a 6-3, 7-6 victory on the road and Caspari was ranked 10th when he lost 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to Friedrich in Dahlonega on February 16.
Friedrich and doubles partner Matheus Guida are ranked 21st in the nation as a doubles tandem with a 10-3 record for the season, including having won their last seven matches. The duo has signature wins over the No. 10 and No. 11 doubles tandems in the nation.
Both the North Georgia men's and women's squads have two straight home matches to close out the month of March and open the month of April. North Georgia will first welcome Lander University for a Peach Belt Conference match on Friday, Mar. 29 at 2:30 p.m. The Saints will then welcome Young Harris College to the North Georgia Tennis Complex on Tuesday, Apr. 2 starting at 2:00 p.m.
