North Georgia Tennis Teams Complete Weekend Sweep With Pair Of Wins At Brevard
BREVARD, North Carolina – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia men's and women's tennis teams completed the perfect weekend road swing as both teams downed Brevard College on Saturday at BC's Hart Tennis Center. The UNG men breezed to an 8-1 win while the women were victorious over the Tornados by a score of 6-3.
On the women's side, the Nighthawks posted wins in two of the three doubles matches led by the team of Adalyn Hazelman and Cameron Williams taking an 8-2 decision at second doubles. UNG also took a point at #3 doubles when BC was unable to field a team.
After Brevard recorded victories at the top two singles spots, the Nighthawks clinched the match by virtue of four straight set victories at the bottom of the lineup. Mathilde Baartvedt (#3), Hazelman (#4), Nela Handac (#5) and Mallory Kolts (#6) secured the team's second straight victory by easing to their respective singles wins.
The victory moves North Georgia to 2-1 on the season. The women return to action on February 12 with a short road trip to face Brenau University in Gainesville.
On the men's side, North Georgia also posted wins at #2 and #3 doubles to get out of the gates early. Giovani Santos and Sam Gantt blanked Brevard at second doubles while Alexander Reinauer and Cameron Mistr recorded an 8-4 win at third doubles.
Brevard's single point came with a three-set win at the top singles spot, but North Georgia secured its third straight win to open the 2014 season with five straight-set singles wins.
The win ups North Georgia's record to a perfect 3-0 marking the first time the team has opened the season with three straight wins in the NCAA era. The Nighthawk men will return to action on February 15 when North Georgia hosts Columbus State in the squad's Peach Belt Conference opener.
