Mixed Rifle Falls Short Against Two Ranked Teams

Story by head coach Tori Kostecki

FORT BENNING, Ga. – The North Georgia College & State University mixed rifle team traveled to the United States Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, Ga. this past Saturday to compete with two nationally-ranked teams in Columbus State University and Memphis State University.

In team competition, Memphis walked away with the win in both the air rifle and smallbore events. Columbus State took second and North Georgia took third, while staying very close in the air rifle event. Saints contributing to the team totals were freshmen Casadie Bragg, Cadet Kyle Bailey, Sara Howell, and sophomore team captain Cadet Luke Duncan.

In the individual standings, Bragg took third on a tie-breaker behind two Memphis shooters with an excellent 583/600 score, well above her average and only 6 points below her school record set a week earlier.

The Saints will wrap up the first half of their season on Saturday, Dec. 1 when they travel to Wofford College for the fourth Southeastern Rifle Conference tournament of the season.
