Rifle Finishes Third At Columbus State Meet Held At Fort Benning
FORT BENNING, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia mixed rifle team competed in a four-team event Saturday hosted by Columbus State University at the Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning. The Nighthawks' aggregate team score of 4,504 was good for fourth place finishing just a single point shy of the host Cougars and 65 points behind champion UT-Martin's mixed team.
UNG's air score was 2,285 which was just four points shy of the school record while the team's total of 2,219 in small bore was good for a new school record. The aggregate of 4,504 was good for a new school record bettering the previous mark by 22 points.
Ruthanne Connor registered a 580 in air which was good for a new personal record. Teammate Casadie Bragg was just two points behind a 578 while Rachel Hamilton posted a personal record of 534.
In small bore Connor tallied her second new personal record of the day with a 570 which was good for third place overall.
As a team, UNG took second place of the three schools edging Columbus State.
North Georgia returns to action tomorrow with a home match against UT-Martin. First relay is scheduled to start at 11:00 AM at the COL Raymond C. Hamilton Shooting Range on the Dahlonega campus.
