#20 Rifle Team Posts New School Record En Route To SEARC Runner-Up Finish
DAHLONEGA, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The #20 University of North Georgia rifle team recorded a pair of runner-up finishes on Sunday at a Southeastern Air Rifle Conference event held in the COL Raymond C. Hamilton Rifle Range on the Dahlonega campus. The Nighthawks finished second in aggregate score behind #12 North Carolina State University but ahead of The Citadel, Clemson, Wofford, Georgia Southern and Georgia Military College.
North Georgia posted a pair of new school records as the Nighthawks totaled 2,287 in small bore bettering the previous mark by 40 points. In the aggregate totals, UNG's 4,517 marked a school record breaking the previous standard by 13 points.
In the small bore competition, Ruthanne Conner was the Nighthawks' top finisher as she registered 568 points which was good for third place out of 31 shooters. Kyle Bailey (563) and Casadie Bragg (562) also posted top-10 finishes as the duo finished eighth and ninth respectively. Bailey's 563 was a new personal record.
Luke Duncan (549, 12th) and Ryan Moran (548, 13th) also posted top-15 finishes for head coach Tori Kostecki's team.
In the air rifle competition, Bragg and NC State's Lucas Kozeniesky shared top honors with both shooters collecting 587 points. Conner's 578 score was good for ninth place out of 50 shooters.
In the team totals NC State's 4,604 was good for top honors in NCAA scoring structure while UNG was runner-up with a score of 4,517. In the SEARC, scoring the Wolfpack's 2,336 edged UNG's 2,292.
The event capped North Georgia's fall semester schedule with the Nighthawks scheduled to return to action on January 18 with another home SEARC event highlighting the schedule.
