Saints earn #12 ranking in final Poll of 2008
North Georgia finished just one game shy of College World Series
DAHLONEGA, GA - North Georgia College & State University find themselves ranked #12 in the country in the final NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll of the 2008 season, tying their highest ranking of the year which came after the Saints forced their way into the Championship game of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
Head Coach Mike Davenport led the Saints Softball team to a record of 39-16 overall, and a Peach Belt Conference mark of 10-8. The Rookie-laden squad made their way to the final game of the PBC Tournament and NCAA South Atlantic Regional before dropping one-run games in both affairs.
North Georgia will likely be moved into next season's Preseason Top 10 ranking with 17 freshman and sophomores on the 2008 team. The Saints will return Sophomore standouts Courtney McGuire who was named Daktronics First Team All-Region, and Laura Voyles who became the schools second NCAA All-American after being named to the NFCA All-American Third Team.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by NCAA Division II head coaches representing each of the eight regions. Records shown are through May 17, 2008. First-place votes are in parentheses.
